Alex Vaillancourt is a Montréal-based photographer and director whose work explores the tension between presence and performance, stillness and movement. His imagery is defined by a precise control of atmosphere where light, texture, and gesture are composed to feel instinctive rather than constructed.

Working across photography and motion, Alex builds visual narratives that privilege subtlety over spectacle. Faces are allowed to breathe, spaces retain their weight, and moments unfold without excess. There is a clear sensitivity to rhythm and silence, an understanding of when to reveal and when to hold back.

Influenced by cinematic language and analogue sensibilities, his visuals often carry a tactile quality: grain, contrast, and materiality are not effects but tools in service of emotion. Whether portraying artists, cultural figures, or editorial subjects, Alex approaches each project as an act of translation, distilling identity, mood, and intention into images that feel both immediate and enduring.
